Who it's for

Hot Stone Massage is ideal for anyone craving a deeper sense of relaxation and gentle relief from everyday muscular tension. The combination of warmth and skilled massage suits a wide range of needs.

  • Anyone carrying tension across the neck, shoulders and back
  • Those who find the warmth of the stones more soothing than a traditional deep-tissue massage
  • Busy professionals looking to switch off and decompress
  • Clients seeking a calming treat to ease stress and aid restful sleep
  • People who feel the cold and love the comfort of gentle heat
  • First-time massage clients wanting a relaxing introduction to bodywork

Why choose Hot Stone Massage

There is something uniquely comforting about the warmth of smooth basalt stones working alongside a therapist's hands. The gentle heat helps muscles to relax more readily, allowing your therapist to ease tension with softer, more soothing pressure than a conventional massage might require.

At By Shiva, we believe wellbeing should feel like a genuine escape. Every Hot Stone Massage is given our full, unhurried attention in a calm and private treatment room, so you can let the worries of the day slip away.

It is a wonderful choice when you want to feel cared for, ease the strains of a hectic week and emerge feeling lighter, looser and thoroughly restored.

How it works

Naturally heat-retaining basalt stones are warmed to a comfortable temperature and placed on key areas of the body to gently encourage muscles to relax. Your therapist then uses the smooth, warm stones, together with traditional massage techniques, to glide over the muscles and ease away tension.

The radiant warmth allows your therapist to work with flowing, soothing strokes, helping you feel deeply relaxed while tightness gradually softens and releases.

Your appointment, step by step

From the moment you arrive, every detail is arranged for your comfort and relaxation. Here is what to expect during your visit.

  1. We welcome you with a brief, friendly consultation to discuss any areas of tension, check your comfort preferences and confirm there are no reasons to avoid heat.
  2. You are shown to a warm, private treatment room and given time to settle comfortably on the couch.
  3. Your therapist warms the basalt stones to a comfortable temperature and tests the heat before placing them gently on the body.
  4. Using the smooth stones alongside flowing massage strokes, your therapist works methodically across the back, shoulders, neck and other areas as needed.
  5. Pressure and warmth are checked throughout, so the treatment always feels soothing rather than uncomfortable.
  6. We finish gently, leaving you a few moments to come round before offering a glass of water and aftercare guidance.

In the treatment room

Expect a calm, softly lit space and a sense of being completely looked after. As the warm stones settle onto your muscles, you will feel a deep, spreading heat that encourages tightness to melt away, while the gliding strokes feel smooth and rhythmic.

Your comfort guides everything. The warmth should feel pleasant and relaxing at all times, and your therapist will check in to ensure the temperature and pressure are just right for you — simply let us know if you would like anything adjusted.

How you'll feel

Many clients notice a wonderful sense of relaxation straight away, with the benefits continuing in the hours and days that follow.

  • Straight after: a deep sense of calm, with muscles feeling looser and tension eased
  • That evening: relaxed and unwound, often with more restful sleep
  • Next day: lingering feelings of comfort and reduced muscular tightness
  • With regular visits: an ongoing way to manage everyday stress and keep tension at bay

Aftercare

A few simple steps will help you make the most of your treatment and prolong that wonderful relaxed feeling.

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the rest of the day
  • Take things gently and avoid strenuous exercise immediately afterwards
  • Allow yourself time to relax rather than rushing back into a busy schedule
  • Enjoy a warm, calming environment and a good night's rest
  • Limit alcohol and caffeine for the remainder of the day
  • Book regular sessions to keep everyday tension in check

Safety & suitability

Hot Stone Massage is suitable for most people, and no patch test is required. Before we begin, we carry out a brief health check to make sure the warmth and pressure are right for you.

Because the treatment uses heat, it may not be suitable in certain circumstances — including pregnancy, high or low blood pressure, diabetes, heart conditions, recent surgery, varicose veins, skin conditions or infections affecting the treatment area, or if you feel unwell. If any of these apply, please let us know in advance so we can advise you. If in doubt, we are always happy to recommend a gentler alternative.

Frequently asked questions

Anything we have not covered? Call 07544 154415 or email and we will get back to you the same day.

Will the stones be too hot? +
No. The basalt stones are warmed to a comfortable temperature, and your therapist always checks the heat before they touch your skin. The warmth should feel soothing throughout, and we will happily adjust it if you prefer.
Do I need a patch test? +
No patch test is required for Hot Stone Massage. We simply carry out a short health check beforehand to ensure the treatment is suitable and comfortable for you.
How long does the treatment take? +
The Hot Stone Massage lasts approximately 60 minutes, with a little extra time at the start for a brief consultation and at the end to relax before you leave.
Is hot stone massage suitable for everyone? +
It suits most people, but because it uses heat it may not be recommended during pregnancy or with certain health conditions. Please share any relevant medical information when you book so we can advise you or suggest a gentler option.
How will I feel afterwards? +
Most clients feel deeply relaxed and notice their muscles feel looser and more comfortable. We recommend drinking plenty of water and taking things gently for the rest of the day.
How often should I have a hot stone massage? +
That is entirely up to you. Many clients enjoy regular sessions to help manage everyday stress and muscular tension, while others book in as an occasional treat. Your therapist can suggest a rhythm that suits you.
