Who it's for

The full back treatment is designed for men who want to manage dense or widespread back hair properly, without the upkeep and awkwardness of at-home methods.

  • Men frustrated by stubble, ingrowing hairs or razor irritation across the back
  • Anyone who finds shaving or waxing their own back difficult or impossible to reach
  • Sportsmen, swimmers and cyclists who prefer smooth, hair-free skin
  • Those tired of paying for repeat waxing with no lasting result
  • Men with any skin tone, thanks to the dual-wavelength technology
  • Clients seeking a long-term reduction in hair growth rather than a temporary fix

Why choose laser for your back

The back is one of the most challenging areas to maintain on your own. Shaving leaves stubble within a day and rarely reaches every patch, while waxing is painful, expensive over time and often results in ingrowing hairs. Laser hair removal addresses the root of the problem by targeting the hair follicle itself, gradually reducing how much hair grows back.

We use the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus®, a leading dual-wavelength system combining Alexandrite and Nd-YAG lasers. This means we can safely and effectively treat the full spectrum of skin tones, from very fair to deep, something older single-wavelength machines could not do. Its built-in contact cooling protects the skin and keeps the experience comfortable throughout.

Over a course of sessions, the majority of clients enjoy noticeably finer, sparser hair and far less day-to-day maintenance. It is a considered investment in your comfort and confidence, carried out by experienced practitioners in a calm, private setting.

How it works

The laser emits a precise beam of light that is absorbed by the pigment in each hair. That light energy converts to heat, which disables the follicle's ability to produce new hair. Because the laser targets hair while it is in its active growth phase, and follicles cycle through growth phases at different times, a course of sessions spaced several weeks apart is needed to treat the full area effectively.

The integrated contact cooling on the GentleMax Pro Plus® delivers a cool burst to the skin with each pulse, helping to keep you comfortable and protect the surface of your skin as we work systematically across the whole back.

Your appointment, step by step

Every session follows the same careful routine so you know exactly what to expect from start to finish.

  1. We begin with a brief consultation to review your skin, your hair and any changes since your last visit, and confirm your patch test result before your first treatment.
  2. You'll be asked to shave the area beforehand, or we'll ensure the back is clipped close, as the laser works on the follicle beneath the skin rather than hair above it.
  3. We cleanse the back and provide protective eyewear for both you and your practitioner.
  4. Working in sections, we glide the GentleMax Pro Plus® handpiece across the skin, delivering pulses paired with cooling to cover the entire back evenly.
  5. The full back takes around 40 minutes to complete, depending on hair density and coverage.
  6. We finish by soothing the skin and talking you through aftercare and the timing of your next session.

What it feels like in the room

Most men describe the sensation as a quick, warm snap against the skin, often likened to the flick of an elastic band, immediately followed by the cool blast of the contact cooling. It's very manageable and settles the moment each pulse passes.

You'll lie comfortably face down in our private treatment room while we work methodically across your back. Some warmth and mild pinkness afterwards is completely normal and usually fades within a few hours.

Results to expect

Laser hair removal is a gradual process, with progress building session by session over your course.

  • After your first session, treated hairs begin to shed over the following one to two weeks.
  • By sessions three to four, many clients notice the regrowth coming through finer, slower and patchier.
  • Across a full course of 6-8 sessions, hair is typically much reduced and the back feels smoother for longer between treatments.
  • Results vary from person to person depending on hair colour, density and hormones; the outcome is long-term hair reduction rather than permanent removal.
  • Occasional top-up sessions may be suggested over time to maintain your results.

Looking after your skin afterwards

A little care in the days following each session keeps your skin happy and protects your results.

  • Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms and vigorous exercise for 24-48 hours.
  • Keep the area out of direct sun and apply a high-factor SPF if any skin is exposed.
  • Skip swimming pools, hot tubs and harsh or fragranced products for a couple of days.
  • Don't wax, pluck or use depilatory creams between sessions; shaving is fine when needed.
  • Apply a gentle, soothing moisturiser to any pinkness or warmth.
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing to avoid rubbing freshly treated skin.

Safety and suitability

A patch test is required 24-48 hours before your first session. This lets us check how your skin responds to the laser and select the safest, most effective settings for your skin tone, helping to keep your treatment comfortable and reducing the risk of any reaction.

Laser hair removal isn't suitable for everyone. It is less effective on very fair, grey, red or white hair, which lacks the pigment the laser targets. Please let us know about any medications, recent sun exposure or skin conditions, and avoid sunbeds and active tanning before treatment. If you have a relevant medical condition, we'll discuss suitability at your consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Anything we have not covered? Call 07544 154415 or email and we will get back to you the same day.

Is a patch test really necessary? +
Yes. We require a patch test 24-48 hours before your first session. It allows us to assess how your skin reacts and tailor the laser settings to your skin tone for a safe, comfortable treatment. It's a small but important step we never skip.
Does treating the full back hurt? +
Most men find it very tolerable. Each pulse feels like a brief warm snap, and the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus® delivers cooling with every pulse to keep you comfortable throughout the 40-minute session.
How many sessions will I need? +
A course of 6-8 sessions, spaced several weeks apart, is typically recommended. Because hair grows in cycles, multiple sessions are needed to treat follicles at the right stage and achieve the best long-term reduction.
Will my back hair be gone forever? +
Laser delivers long-term hair reduction rather than permanent removal. After a full course most clients enjoy significantly less, finer hair, with occasional top-up sessions to maintain the result over time.
Does it work on darker skin tones? +
Yes. The GentleMax Pro Plus® is a dual-wavelength system using both Alexandrite and Nd-YAG lasers, making it safe and effective across all skin tones, from very fair to deep (Fitzpatrick I-VI).
Do I need to shave before my appointment? +
Yes, the area should be shaved beforehand so the laser can target the follicle beneath the skin. If needed we can clip it close for you. Avoid waxing or plucking, as the laser needs the root in place to work.
